Californian who immigrated to Israel in 2012 received countless death threats over false accusations.
An Israeli ex-soldier has filed a $6 million lawsuit against a Californian Boycott Divestment and Sanctions activist for falsely accusing her of the death of a Palestinian, outlet Globes reported Wednesday.
Rebecca Re’em, 26, immigrated to Israel from California at the age of 18 and joined the Israeli military in 2012. She joined the Education Corps, where she served as an officer in charge of the Nativ program for Jewish converts.
A photograph of Re’em that was uploaded to the official IDF Facebook as part of a call on young individuals to join the army was about to change her life.
In 2018, three years after she had completed her military service, BDS activist Suhir Napal uploaded that photo on her personal Facebook page, next to a photo of Rouzan-al-Najjar – a Palestinian who was killed from IDF fire in the summer of 2018 during riots on the Israel-Gaza border.
Nepal’s post had went viral through the anti-Israel movement and, according to financial daily Globes, reached millions of people globally.
Re’em, who had not even served in the IDF at the time of Najjar’s death nor had she ever been to the Israel-Gaza border, began receiving threats on her life and on her family members.

Earlier this week Re’em filed the lawsuit through the Shurat HaDin Law Center against Napal, who since then changed the definitions on her Facebook page from public to private.
Shurat HaDin uses the courts to combat terrorism and anti-Semitism.
The NGO’s founder Adv. Nitsana Darshan-Leitnerwas told the financial daily, “It seems that we are returning to the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and the anti-Semitic blood libels of the past. Rebecca and her family were slandered and received death threats simply because she was an Israeli soldier.
|The war waged by Israel haters also extends to the legal dimension, and Rebecca’s lawsuit is in the forefront of the campaign against global BDS and its opposition to the State of Israel. BDS activists will know that they themselves may have a personal obligation for their anti-Zionist activities and might even pay a very heavy price.”
