A significant number of the children recruited by Hamas and its partners to participate in the Great March of Return paid the price of Palestinian terror with their lives or with disabling injuries. Contrary to the portrayal of these children by various “human rights organizations” as peaceful protesters, Hamas, the PA, and the other terrorist organizations in the Strip actively encouraged them to participate in violence and terror. The intention was clearly to use the child’s death or injury as a propaganda tool against Israel, blaming the Israelis and deflecting fault away from themselves. The children were also useful in urging the civilian population, and young people in particular, to follow in their footsteps as martyrs.

The long-term physical and psychological damage intentionally inflicted upon these children is incalculable, as is the damage to the possibility of a lasting peace in the region. It is incumbent upon UNICEF in its report to clearly condemn Hamas and its partners and the PA for their flagrant violations of international law, the rights of these children and the norms of civilized society.
