A Response to Unifor’s Shameful Pro-BDS Resolution
Yesterday, the largest private sector union in Canada, Unifor, easily passed a resolution titled ”Palestinian Self Determination and the Movement for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions.”
This is another shameful resolution passed by an organization in a foreign country that lacks any knowledge as to what goes on in Israel. However, this resolution doesn’t come out of nowhere. These types of resolutions occur because Palestinian and Pro-BDS organizations lobby unions, like Unifor, day and night with lies and distortions as to what actually goes on in Israel. This resolution is even more unfortunate as Unifor is the largest private sector union in Canada with more than 310,000 members, and their support of this resolution, albeit misguided at best, does make a statement.
Yet, resolutions of this kind only serve to underscore the importance of the many pro-Israel organizations fighting against the BDS and the lies and propaganda that the Palestinian Authority, BDS organizations and other hateful groups spread on a daily basis. If left unchallenged, the Palestinians would be even more blatant in their lies against Israel. Thanks to the many organizations fighting against these lies and sinister attacks, the Palestinians are slowly being unmasked and being held accountable for their actions.
They are being held responsible for their daily incitement that goes on throughout Palestinian media which has been documented by Palestinian Media Watch and MEMRI. They are being held responsible for paying salaries to terrorists as the Taylor Force Act makes its way through the US Congress. Shurat HaDin is holding them responsible in the courts with a $655 million lawsuit that it won against the Palestinian Authority in 2015 (currently in appeals courts), and representing numerous terror victims who are suing the Palestinian Authority for their sponsorship of terror over the past 15 years. Organizations like Stand with Us and the Maccabee Task Force of CUFI are fighting the war on college campuses to ensure that slander of Israel and the Jewish people does not go unchallenged. In instances where BDS actions violate a law, Shurat HaDin has been there to pursue legal action.
This reprehensible resolution will be remembered as a stain on Unifor, since at some point these people will understand that they are on the wrong side of history, and have been used as a proxy in the Palestinian Authority’s insatiable hatred against Israel, and as sustenance for the anti-Semitic appetite of BDS groups. Adding insult to injury is that on Labor Day weekend, where Unifor so gleefully celebrates its defense of workers’ rights, its new resolution will only serve to harm the Palestinian worker, who is the greatest beneficiary from being able to work at Israeli manufacturing plants and other Israeli run workplaces.
