On October 12th, 2000, two IDF reserve soldiers – Yossi Avraham and Vadim Norzitz- accidentally entered the Palestinian Authority-controlled city of Ramallah after missing the Israeli checkpoint on their way back to base.
The soldiers were detained by the Palestinian Authority police and taken to the local police station. The two Israeli reservists were then literally torn from limb by a mob under police supervision.
Two PA policemen, identified as Tariq Tabesh and Ra’ad A-Sheikh, attacked the soldiers with pipes and an errant knife. Known terrorist Aziz Salha stabbed, choke, and disembowel the two soldiers. He infamously waved his hands, covered in the blood of the soldiers, toward the mob of around 1000 Palestinians outside, who then proceeded to storm the building.
Included in this mob was Nasser Abu Hameid, a terrorist who had previously had 5 life sentences for 5 cases of murder but was released prison in the September 1999 Sharm el-Sheikh agreement. The survivors of the victims brought a lawsuit against the PA a few weeks after the murder. The trial is ongoing.
