Court Orders Terror Victim's Case against Swiss Bank to Proceed

ImageDecember 15, 2009: A federal court in New York has ruled that a civil action brought against UBS-AG, the largest bank in Switzerland, by American terror victims can proceed to trial.   The plaintiffs in the case, the family of Stuart "Hezi" Goldberg, who was murdered by Hamas in a terror attack on the number 19 bus in Jerusalem in 2004, accuse UBS of  lending support to the Hamas terror organization. In their complaint, Goldberg's wife and seven children, allege that UBS aided and abetted the Islamic group's terror campaign by providing banking services to European front charities affiliated with Hamas.

North Korea to Stand Trial for Supporting Terror

ImageDecember 1, 2009: For the first time, the government of North Korea will face charges of supporting terrorism against Israel in a U.S. Federal Court.

The case arises from a lawsuit brought by the families of victims of the 1972 terror attack at the Lod Airport in Israel in which 26 people were killed and 80 injured. The complaint alleges that the government of North Korea trained and financed the terrorists who perpetrated the heinous massacre.

Canadian court throws out Palestinians' Case

ImageSeptember 24, 2009: As the international community continues to place pressure on Israel to stop building in communities beyond the Green Line, two construction firms building in Samaria have scored a knockout against the Palestinians in a Canadian Court.
With the help of Israeli lawyers, residents of the Palestinian village of Bilin initially filed legal actions against two real estate development corporations, Green Park Int'l and Green Mount Int'l, and their director, Annette Laroche in the Israeli High Court of Justice (HCJ).  The two companies had built 30 apartment complexes in the Israeli town of Modi'in Ilit in Samaria, which neighbors Bilin.

Shurat HaDin Petitions Israeli Supreme Court over Right of Jewish Families to Live in Jaffa

ImageAugust 20, 2009: Shurat HaDin - Israel Law Center has filed an appeal in the Israeli Supreme Court on behalf of a group of twenty Jewish families whose right to build homes in the coastal Israeli town of Jaffa is being challenged by a coalition of Arab-Israelis and politically-motivated NGOs. The coalition is demanding that the families, who won the right to build in a public auction of a plot of land, have their bid disqualified by the Supreme Court based solely upon the fact that they are Jewish and that their presence in Jaffa will tip the demographic balance of the neighborhood and discriminates against Arabs.

Court Asks State Department's Opinion concerning Hamas Funds Frozen in Egyptian Bank

ImageJuly 30, 2009: On February 5, 2009, Hamas leader Ayman Taha attempted to smuggle $9 million and 2 million Euros packed in suitcases into Gaza through the Egyptian border crossing. Tipped off by Israeli intelligence the Egyptians stopped the terrorist official and barred him from entering Gaza with the funds.
After a several day long diplomatic stand-off, a compromise was reached whereby the Hamas funds were deposited by Egypt in the El Arish (Sinai) branch of the National Bank of Egypt ("NBE").  The idea was that once things had quieted down, Hamas would have the funds returned to them  and devise a different means of smuggling the money into Gaza.
